Plaud's 300-Minute Limit: What to Do When You Run Out
Plaud's free Starter plan includes 300 transcription minutes per month, and they don't roll over. When you run out, nothing happens to your recordings. Your Plaud keeps recording and syncing as usual, but new transcriptions stop until your minutes reset next month. You have four realistic options: wait for the reset, transcribe more selectively, buy more minutes from Plaud, or transcribe outside your Plaud minutes with an independent service.
Here's what each option actually costs, and the fine print on how the limit works.
First: what stops, and what doesn't
The 300-minute limit is a transcription limit, not a recording limit. When the counter hits zero:
- Your recorder keeps working. Recording and syncing to your Plaud account continue normally.
- New transcriptions stop. Recordings pile up untranscribed until you have minutes again.
- Minutes are spent when a recording is transcribed, and they don't come back if you delete the recording afterwards.
- Unused minutes don't accumulate. A quiet month doesn't buy you a louder one.
That last point is the one that surprises most owners: 300 minutes per month is not 3,600 minutes per year you can use freely. It's use-it-or-lose-it, every month.
Option 1: Wait for the monthly reset (free)
If you record less than roughly five hours a month, the free allowance may simply be enough. You hit the wall occasionally, wait a few days, and move on.
The trade-off: your untranscribed backlog grows while you wait, and if you consistently record more than 300 minutes, you'll hit the same wall every single month. Waiting is a patch, not a plan.
Option 2: Transcribe selectively (free)
Not every recording deserves transcription. Many owners triage: transcribe the client call and the project meeting, skip the commute voice memo.
The trade-off: you bought a device that captures everything precisely so you wouldn't have to decide in the moment what matters. Rationing minutes brings that decision right back.
Option 3: Buy more minutes from Plaud
Plaud sells its way out of the limit three ways (Plaud list prices, June 2026):
- Plaud Pro: $17.99/month for 1,200 minutes (20 hours) per month.
- Plaud Unlimited: $29.99/month, or $239.99/year, without counting minutes.
- Transcription packs: 600 minutes for $12.99, 3,000 for $59.99, or 6,000 for $99.99.
If you live inside the Plaud app and use the full allowance every month, Pro or Unlimited keeps everything in one place. That's a fair reason to choose them.
The trade-off: price. Pro is $215.88 a year for transcription on top of a recorder you already paid for, and monthly plan minutes reset just like the free ones. Unlimited removes the counting, but at $29.99/month ($359.88 a year billed monthly) it's the most expensive way to solve this problem.
Option 4: Transcribe outside your Plaud minutes
Your recordings are yours; they live in your Plaud account. Independent services can connect to that account (with your own login) and transcribe on demand, without touching your Plaud minute counter at all.

No. Unused Starter minutes don't accumulate. The counter resets each month, and whatever you didn't use is gone. If you record more than 300 minutes some months and less in others, you can't bank the difference.
